Nigerian federation bans five for misrepresentation as NFF officials

Nigeria's football federation have handed bans to some of its members claiming to run a rival federation.

Christopher Giwa, Muazu Suleyman, Yahaya Adama, Sani Fema and Effiong Johnson were all hit with five-year bans by the NFF's Disiciplinary Committee on Thursday.

In handing down the bans, the Committee explained that the rogue group misrepresented themselves as the NFF while hiring a legal firm in Johannesburg and accruing bills of up to $100,000 which they have refused to pay, leading to legal action against the NFF.

The group, led by Giwa, claims that they were elected into the executive committee of the NFF in August 2014. That election was not recognised by FIFA, which ordered fresh elections that subsequently produced the current Exco led by Amaju Pinnick.

FIFA's decision was challenged by Giwa at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ruled in favour of FIFA.

Giwa however claimed he had a court order not only sacking Pinnick and his board, but installing him and his board as the legitimately elected officials.

That claim was recently refuted by the court.

Pinnick, his first vice president Seyi Akinwunmi and general secretary Mohammed Sanusi are currently in Mexico attending the FIFA General Assembly.
