Nigeria's Stephen Keshi on list of applicants for vacant Ivory Coast job

A succession of high-profile names have put themselves forward for the vacant post of Ivory Coast national team head coach, including Nigeria national team boss Stephen Keshi, whose presence on the list has alarmed the Nigerian FA [NFF].

Giovanni Trapattoni and former Southampton manager Dave Jones are also among those on the 59-name list interested in taking over for the departed Herve Renard.

But the biggest name, however, is Keshi, whose inclusion has caused a stir with the NFF.

"The NFF will open a full investigation to determine whether Mr. Stephen Keshi actually applied for the vacant Ivory Coast job," NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire told the BBC.

"There will be no hasty decision. We hope to get a full part from the Ivory Coast football federation before making an official statement."

The eagerness of former Republic of Ireland boss Trapattoni to return to the game at the age of 76 confirms his enthusiasm has not waned, while Jones is keen to get back into the game after being out of management since he lost his job at Sheffield Wednesday in December 2013.

The Ivory Coast FA will narrow the shortlist down to three candidates before a final appointment is confirmed.
