FIFA Under-17 World Cup winning coach Manu Garba has been handed a three-match ultimatum by Gombe United.

The promoted team recruited the renowned youth team coach at the start of the Nigeria Professional Football League season to aid their survival chances, but things haven't exactly gone according to plan. Gombe are battling in 18th spot with just 22 points from 18 games so far.

In a statement signed by the club spokesman Tanimu Umar, it stated that Garba has been given the next three matches to improve the team's performance or face sanctions.

Furthermore, eight players have been released by the club ahead of the second stage of the league season, while 11 new players have been signed. The affected players are Bala Mohammed, Nura Mohammed, Samuel Agba, Fabassou Diedonne, McDonald Igbankwe, Franlin Matibel, Nnamdi Ebosie and Chidera Ejuike.

Among the new arrivals are Afolabi Abdulwaheed, Tijani Adamu, Iyoro Evans and Joseph Onoja.

Meanwhile, former Dream Team VI defender Semiu Liadi has completed his switch from Akwa United to Rivers United ahead of the second stage of the Nigerian Professional Football League.

Liadi, who previously represented Warri Wolves before their relegation, teams up with Rivers as they embark on a CAF Confederations Cup campaign - the only Nigerian team to make the group stages in either CAF competition.
