Ilechukwu: We have the quality to be league champions

Head coach of title chasing MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu, says he wants to guide the Olukoya Boys to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title this season.

The club have done well to build on the experience they gained in their debut season last year, following an equally strong start to the league campaign, which eventually saw them battle relegation.

MFM FC are on a good run of form this season, sitting comfortably in 2nd place on the table. In an exclusive chat with www.busybuddiesng.com, Ilechukwu stated anything below a third-place finish for his side in the current campaign would be regarded as a failure for his team.

"We want to win the League and I think we have the ability and quality to be among the top contenders for this (NPFL) title," Ilechukwu started.

"We really need to show the same quality and character in the second round to be able to confirm that we are capable to win the league.

"It's important for us. We have set our target and by God's grace, we'll get there."

Considering the array of young and relatively inexperienced players paraded by MFM FC, including league top scorer Stephen Odey, Ilechukwu's resolve remains unshaken as he is very optimistic of winning the title in their second season in the NPFL.

"Although people may not believe it, people are saying 'they are waiting to see what will happen in the second round'. Second stanza of Nigeria Premier League is the beginning of MFM's league (triumph). It's beginning for us," the young coach said.

"So, this second round we are waiting. It will soon kick off. We are preparing. People are waiting and we will never disappoint them. We will never disappoint them, honestly speaking.

"If MFM didn't make top three, top four to me is a failure for MFM football club," Ilechukwhu confidently added.
