Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is confident Schalke will not renege on a deal which would see Manuel Neuer move to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern are reported to have agreed an €18 million transfer fee with Schalke earlier this month for the Germany goalkeeper after protracted negotiations.

However, the Gelsenkirchen-based club have since prolonged their lucrative sponsorship deal with Russian energy company Gazprom and Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies has now suggested they will offer Neuer an extension to his contract which expires next summer.

Rummenigge shrugged off the complication and insisted Schalke will honour the original agreement.

He told the Bild newspaper: ''I am convinced Schalke will keep to the agreement we made with a handshake. I know the representatives of Schalke as men of honour and reputable operators, as we are too.''

Tonnies, though, hinted at a change of stance from the DFB-Pokal winners.

He said: ''I can't sell Manuel Neuer and Schalke don't have to sell him either. However, we don't want to let the issue simmer for weeks.''
