Senegal midfielder Papa Bouba Diop has completed his move from Portsmouth to AEK Athens for an undisclosed fee after signing a two-year deal with the Greek side.

Diop has ended a six-year stay in England, having joined Fulham from Grasshoppers in 2004 before moving on to Pompey in 2007.

The 32-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League's most consistent performers in recent seasons and will add some bite to the AEK midfield.

"I am satisfied with the outcome of my transfer," Diop said. "I was surprised by the fans who turned out to greet me at the airport. I have seen AEK play in European matches and was impressed."

Diop's two-year deal with Dusan Bajevic's side includes an option of extending his stay for another season, and he will have the opportunity to help AEK book a place in the Europa League proper when the Greek side compete in the competition's play-off round next month.
