Loew aims to clear the air with unhappy stars

November 11, 2008

Germany coach Joachim Loew will summon his players to a meeting in Berlin prior to next week's international friendly against England to address some of the issues which have plagued the national team in recent weeks.

Kevin Kuranyi, Torsten Frings and Michael Ballack all clashed with Low after last month's World Cup qualifiers against Russia and Wales.

Kuranyi was told by Loew that his international career was over when he walked out on the squad at half-time of their match with Russia while Frings and Ballack have had to apologise to the coach for criticising him in public.

Loew is keen to prevent a repeat of the negative headlines which lingered after the two victories, which is why he wants to make matters clear for everybody.

"It is important for me to discuss this issue and set a few things straight on the way to the 2010 World Cup," he told Kicker magazine. "I will liaise with the clubs and try to get all of my players to Berlin, even if they cannot play against England due to injury."

Loew will name his squad for the friendly on Thursday or Friday.

His meeting with the players is scheduled for Monday in the German capital, where the subject of win bonuses for World Cup qualification is also on the agenda, according to Kicker.
