Metz sack coach de Taddeo after 14th defeat

METZ, December 23 (Ligue 1) - Ligue 1 strugglers Metz have sacked coach Francis de Taddeo following their 14th defeat of the campaign.

Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Lorient leaves the promoted side rock-bottom with just seven points from 19 games and a return to Ligue 2 looks inevitable with 17 points already separating them from safety.

A statement on the club website read: 'Following on from the problems the team have encountered, Metz have decided to part from Francis De Taddeo.

'The two parties will meet at the beginning of January to finalise the terms of his departure.

'Furthermore, we will step up the pace until we find a successor, a successor who will have to have the profile of an experienced coach, with good knowledge of Ligue 1 and 2.'

De Taddeo, 50, was voted Ligue 2 manager of the year last season - his first year of coaching a professional team - but has managed only one victory this campaign.

The club added that they hope to have a new coach in place in the next dew days.
