Lisi undergoes successful surgery

April 12, 2006

SECAUCUS, NJ -- New York Red Bulls midfielder Mark Lisi underwent a successful procedure in Munich, Germany to repair a right side inguinal hernia injury or "sports hernia".

Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck performed a minimal repair technique on the longest tenured player on the Red Bulls, which is a procedure developed and performed exclusively by Dr. Muschaweck. Muschaweck has performed this same procedure on over 1500 athletes.

The Red Bulls sent Lisi to see the specialist after he felt discomfort during recent workouts.

Lisi, 28, saw one minute of action in the team's 2006 opener against D.C. United, and was not active for the team's match against New England last weekend due to the injury. The Clemson graduate will join the team in New Jersey tomorrow to begin rehab. The timetable on his full return is put at 1-2 weeks.
