Perth Glory keeper Young has surgery

October 15, 2011

Perth Glory reserve goalkeeper Neil Young was forced to undergo abdominal surgery on Saturday night after experiencing pain.

Young, who is back-up to No.1 choice 'keeper Danny Vukovic, was replaced on the bench for Sunday's match against Melbourne Heart by Glory youth player Lewis Italiano.

Perth's medical staff will consult with Young's surgeon in the coming days to plan the 32-year-old's rehabilitation.

Young almost died last year after a bowel infection led to six operations and a six-week stint in intensive care.

He made a remarkable return to the Newcastle Jets Youth League team before signing a two-year deal with the Glory earlier this year.
