The former England coach had been expected to take a job at 1860 Munich, with the Bundesliga second division side telling reporters earlier this month that he had agreed to join them.

But it now appears the 64-year-old will confirm his switch to the United Arab Emirates club, whose manager is Walter Zenga, and on Sunday he told BBC Sport: "Things are not finalised yet, but they could be tomorrow [Monday]."

Eriksson, who has worked in Thailand after being sacked by Championship Leicester City in 2011, had been linked with the Blackburn Rovers job as well as a move to Germany.

He denied having held serious negotiations with 1860, but the German club had been confident enough of his impending arrival to announce it.

They explained that the Swede would assist boss Alexander Schmidt, and director Otto Steiner had said: "The board agrees that Sven-Goran Eriksson joins the 1860 coaching staff. Alexander Schmidt will remain the boss."
