Keane, 32, who enjoyed two separate spells at White Hart Lane, will train at the club's Enfield base in a bid to keep up his fitness levels ahead of the return of the start of the MLS season in March.

The Republic of Ireland international spent the last American off-season on loan at Aston Villa but he has ruled out a loan move back to England this year, stating he needed a rest following a tiring 2012 with club and country.

"It's been a long season, with the Euros and what have you," Keane told Sky Sports. "I've a few little niggles that need to be sorted out so I don't think at this moment in time it would be right for me to go anywhere."

Despite Spurs being down to just one striker - with Emmanuel Adebayor at the African Nations Cup - it is understood that manager Andre Villas-Boas has no plans to persuade Keane to return for a third stint at the club.

Keane joined Galaxy in the summer of 2011 where he has since helped inspire them to two MLS Cup victories.
