Nottingham Forest have signed striker Billy Sharp on a season-long loan from Southampton.

Sharp, 26, had only joined the Saints in January when he left Doncaster but, after signing the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Gaston Ramirez this summer, he has been deemed surplus to requirements.

He returns to the Championship with Forest, who have spent heavily in recent weeks following their takeover by the Al-Hasawi family.

Forest have also completed the loan signing of attacking midfielder James Coppinger from Doncaster.

Both Sharp and Coppinger had played under Forest manager Sean O'Driscoll at the Keepmoat Stadium and chairman Omar Al Hasawi told the club's official website: "No manager knows Billy as well as Sean does and when he made it clear he wanted to bring him to the club we did everything in our power to make it happen.

"Billy's goalscoring record is outstanding and we have no doubts he will fit in perfectly at the City Ground and add to the attacking threat we already have.

"James has great experience of the Championship and I know he is delighted to have the opportunity to work with Sean again. He is our 11th signing for Nottingham Forest and I'm sure he will prove to be a great asset for us in the weeks ahead."
