Steve McClaren's Newcastle United have to improve - Ayoze Perez

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has said that "something has to change" at the club as pressure mounts on manager Steve McClaren.

Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League table, a point away from safety with 10 matches of their season to play.

McClaren, who took over at St James' Park last summer, is reportedly on the brink of losing his job with the Tyneside club.

Ahead of next Monday's trip to leaders Leicester, Perez told BBC Newcastle: "In some moments we are not a team, we are not as one. Something has to change.

"It's not enough -- we have good quality in the dressing room, but during this season we have not shown it. We need to be a team.

"We have been playing good football at home -- winning games. That has been key for us -- playing at home. I don't know what happened but we have to change something.

"We have to think that we have 10 finals. It doesn't matter how, we have to be a team and try to get points as soon as possible because we are in trouble.

"It's our turn, we have to give [the fans] something special because Newcastle, the club, and the fans don't deserve the situation."

Regarding McClaren, Perez added: "He is our manager, we have to be with him. If something changes, I don't know what's going to happen -- but right now we are with him because he is our manager."

On Monday evening, Newcastle's official Fans Forum called on the club for "action" to end the club's current malaise, with reports claiming the club is holding crisis talks over the managerial situation this week.

McClaren said following Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth: "I believe in that dressing room there are enough performances in the last 10 games. I don't care who the manager is but the club will get out of this."
