John Carver to stay at Newcastle until end of season after 'frank dialogue'

John Carver is set to remain in charge of Newcastle United until the end of the season following "two days of frank dialogue."

Carver was put in caretaker charge of the club in January following the departure of Alan Pardew, but questions have been raised over his tenure after a run of eight straight defeats -- and only two wins since taking charge.

Further questions were asked after he accused defender Mike Williamson of deliberately picking up a second yellow card during Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Leicester, and he has said he feels the players are "just not listening" to him.

With the club now just two points clear of the relegation zone, there had been speculation that Derby boss Steve McClaren could be brought in for the final three games of the season.

However, following Carver's meeting with managing director Lee Charnley on Monday morning, Newcastle issued a statement on their official website that suggested Carver would be allowed to see out the remainder of his tenure.

The statement read: "Following the result at Leicester City on Saturday, there has been two days of frank dialogue with John Carver and senior players.

"The outcome of those discussions is that the board, John Carver, his staff and players are absolutely focused on our current situation and the three hugely-important fixtures that remain this season, two of which are at St. James' Park.

"All parties accept responsibility for the current situation but are determined, together, to ensure this club -- your club -- retains its Premier League status. That is the only focus at this time."

Newcastle will face West Brom and West Ham home either side of a trip to fellow relegation battlers Queens Park Rangers before the end of the season.
