Montpellier chief hits out at Newcastle

Newcastle have recently had a bid rejected for Remy Cabella.

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has once again told midfielder Remy Cabella that Newcastle is not the right club for him.

Cabella, 24, has long been attracting interest from the Magpies, with the Premier League club having seen bids in January and again this summer knocked back.

Nicollin has hit out at Newcastle in the past and did so once more when speaking to Le Sport 10, insisting that the eight million euros they offered for the player was well short of his valuation.

"Yes, the 'great' English club Newcastle has made us an offer of 8 million from three weeks ago, which I refused," he said.

"I do not think Newcastle is right for him, and I also think they are taking us for idiots. They sold Yohan Cababye to Paris Saint-Germain for I do not know how many millions, and they should not take us for fools."

Nicollin went on to say that Cabella is worth nearer 16 million euros -- a fee that Marseille paid Bastia for young French midfielder Florian Thauvin.

"I saw Thauvin was purchased for 16 million and I think Cabella is slightly ahead of him, so let's say that for 16 million he leaves and if nobody wants to give that to us then he will remain.

"He still has two years of his contract, so there is no hurry to sell."

Cabella, who was drafted into France's World Cup squad, is reportedly keen on joining Newcastle, but Nicollin says Montpellier will have the final say.

"It is not necessary that players always win anyway. When a player wants to leave he is always determined to get there," he said.

"I hope he does go but if it is not for us, he will not go, that I guarantee you."

Nicollin confirmed that PSG have enquired about fellow midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, saying: "They [PSG] asked about Stambouli but not about Cabella."
