Ring keen on move to Newcastle

Finnish midfielder Alexander Ring could be set for a summer move to the Premier League with Newcastle.

Ring, 21, currently on loan at German side Borussia Monchengladbach from HJK in his homeland, will cost any interested parties around £500,000. A promising midfielder with 15 caps already for his country, his agent Tuomas Talvitie has confirmed he will make a decision on his future in May.

Sources close to the player have indicated to ESPN that Newcastle are facing stiff competition from a host of Premier League sides, but that the player would be interested in a move to St James’s Park. With Talvitie also confirming sides in Germany and Russia have declared an interest, he admits his client is only considering offers from top flight divisions.

“Newcastle is one of the clubs which will be consulted,” Talvitie told iltasanomat.fi. “But we will spend time with many other teams. I hope that negotiations will lead to something. In Germany, we talk with almost every team, but Bundesliga II is not an option. Overall, we are looking for top division teams.”

The news comes in the wake of reports that Newcastle are set for a considerable shake up of their playing squad this summer.

First-team defenders Mike Williamson and Danny Simpson have already been earmarked as likely departures with a number of the club’s development squad also likely to be let go, as Newcastle aim to take in around a dozen youngsters from Central Europe.
