Assistant coach Luciano Trani departs Newcastle Jets as crisis worsens

The Newcastle Jets plunged further into crisis on Thursday with the departure of assistant coach Luciano Trani from the A-League club.

The Jets sacked head coach Scott Miller on Wednesday amid reports he had had a falling out with Trani on a recent tour of China.

Club chief executive Lawrie McKinna refused to comment on the reported rift, citing a confidentiality clause.

The Jets announced on Thursday afternoon that Trani had been released with immediate effect.

"We have chosen to give the club's new head coach the opportunity to appoint his own assistant," McKinna said via a statement.

"Luciano joined Newcastle Jets in June this year and has helped prepare the squad for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

"We wish him well in his future endeavours."

Newcastle youth coach Clayton Zane will oversee first-team training until further notice and will be at the helm on Sunday when the Jets play Edgeworth FC.
