Red Bulls defender Damien Perrinelle out for rest of MLS playoffs

The New York Red Bulls will be without injured defender Damien Perrinelle for the rest of the MLS playoffs, the club announced on Tuesday.

Perrinelle suffered an injury to his left knee in the first half of Sunday's 1-0 win at D.C. United in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal.

The Frenchman started 27 games at center-back back for the Red Bulls this season before landing awkwardly in the 48th minute.

Red Bulls manager Jesse Marsch replaced Perrinelle with Ronald Zubar, who nearly saw a red card for a dangerous tackle. The New York Post reported Zubar would not see any additional league discipline for the challenge, meaning he will be available for Sunday's second leg.

Marsch, who could also turn to Canada international Karl Ouimette, told Sports Illustrated he was looking forward to playing at home with a goal advantage from the away leg.

"I think at home, we're able to establish ourselves with the way we want to play, the rhythm we want to play, the speed," Marsch said. "Most of the games at home have been heavily on our terms. Now, we can't that for granted.

"I know [D.C. United manager] Benny [Olsen]. I know him as a coach and as a leader and he's going to have his team, in every way, ready for the challenge of going up there and getting a result."
