Lee Nguyen signs new contract with New England Revolution

United States international Lee Nguyen signed a new contract with the New England Revolution on Friday.

MLS did not reveal terms of the deal.

"Lee is an important member of this club and we're pleased we were able to reach a new agreement with him," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said.

Nguyen, 29, scored seven goals in 31 league starts for New England last season, his fourth with the team.

He enjoyed a breakout season in 2014, finishing second in the MVP voting after scored 18 goals with five assists.

That performance earned him a recall to the U.S. squad for the first time in seven years. He has earned nine total caps for the national team.

"He is a player who has the ability to make players around him better and we've all seen his game develop incrementally since he joined us in 2012," Burns said.

"We look forward to his continued contributions on the field and have no doubt he will assume an even larger leadership role for New England both on and off the field."
