Napoli have moved to dismiss speculation linking striker Gonzalo Higuain with a move to Barcelona.

Cope reported on Sunday that Higuain, 26, was on the verge of signing for Barca, with the Argentina international having agreed personal terms with the Spanish club.

However, Napoli announced via their official Twitter account later that evening that there was no truth in the story and that the striker is going nowhere.

"The rumours according to which @G_Higuain could be sold to the @FCBarcelona are entirely unfounded," the tweet read.

Barcelona have cash to spare having just sold on Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea for a reported 33 million euros and are believed to be looking to reinvest that in new signings.

Higuain, who only signed for Napoli from Real Madrid last summer, had an impressive debut campaign in Naples, netting 17 Serie A goals.

The striker is currently on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil.
