Napoli confirm Higuain signing

Napoli have confirmed the signing of Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid for a reported fee of £34.5 million.

Higuain said at the end of last season that he intended to leave Madrid.
Gonzalo Higuain has signed a five-year deal with Napoli.

A statement published on Napoli's official website read: "Napoli have made the signing of Gonzalo Higuain official. The Argentinian striker arrives from Real Madrid."

The 25-year-old passed a medical at the Partenopei earlier in the week alongside Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina who joins on a season-long loan.

"Higuain is extremely strong and he’s done well in a big club like Real Madrid," Napoli manager Rafa Benitez said on Friday, of the striker who scored 107 league goals in six seasons at the Bernabeu. "I know him very well."

Napoli have already signed Jose Callejon and Raul Albiol from Real Madrid this summer and Benitez refused to rule out any further arrivals.

"We’ll have to see if somebody else arrives,” he added. "We also want to work on our youth academy so the fans should be delighted. Napoli has a positive future."
