Napoli confirm talks with Higuain

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that his club are in talks with Real Madrid about signing Gonzalo Higuain as a replacement for Edinson Cavani, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Ossie Ardiles believes Gonzalo Higuain will have a major impact in the Premier League.
Higuain and Napoli are in talks about a possible move.

The Partenopei are on the lookout for a striker to fill the Uruguayan’s boots, and Higuain - along with Leandro Damiao - is a target.

De Laurentiis confirmed that in a Twitter Q&A. Asked whether it was true that his club were negotiating with Higuain and Damiao, he replied: "It is true."

The president has already promised to reinvest the money raised by the Cavani sale, saying he would have made €60 million available to new coach Rafa Benitez this summer regardless of whether or not their top goalscorer of the past three seasons had moved on.

"With the €64.5 million [from the Cavani sale] and the €60 million I had budgeted, that means we have €124.5 million to invest in Napoli with diligence and experience," he wrote.

De Laurentiis, who interrupted the Q&A session for "important telephone calls" with director of sport Bigon, has promised "a big surprise on July 29".

That is not only the day when the club’s new strip will be unveiled during a friendly with Galatasaray, it could also be the day on which Cavani’s successor is revealed.

"There are plenty of names on the table and we are evaluating all of them," De Laurentiis wrote, adding that a new club anthem would also be unveiled at the end of the month.
