Nantes poised to appoint Claudio Ranieri after LFP go-ahead - report

Nantes have obtained an exemption from French Football League (LFP) rules on the age of a coach to appoint Claudio Ranieri, L'Equipe has reported.

LFP regulations say a club cannot select a coach aged 65 or over, with Ranieri having celebrated his 65th birthday in October.

However, both the LFP and Unecatef, France's union for professional coaches, have given the green light to Nantes bringing in Ranieri, who steered Leicester to an astonishing Premier League title win in 2015-16.

He will replace Sergio Conceicao, who joined Porto last week, and is expected to sign a two-year contract, the report said.

Nantes president Waldemar Kita had expressed his frustration over the regulations to France Info on Monday night, saying: "The Ligue agree. I think that the French Football Federation are the only people blocking this dossier a bit and I don't know for what reason.

"What we are interested in is the experience as a footballer and as a coach, since we know full well that he has coached the biggest clubs in Europe."
