Morocco's Amine Harit sentenced after fatal car crash

Morocco international Amine Harit has been sentenced to a four-month suspended sentence after being involved in a fatal car crash in his homeland in June.

The Moroccan media [as per AFP] revealed the sentence late on Tuesday, just over a month after the Schalke midfielder fatally injured a pedestrian in an accident in Marrakech.

As well as probation, Harit will also have to pay a fine of 8,600 dirhams, the equivalent of 780 Euros.

The 21-year-old was initially released by police pending an investigation, although his passport was seized, and he was only allowed to return to Germany on July 6.

Prosecutors in Morocco had said the Schalke player could face involuntary homicide charges, according to Spiegel Online.

Less than three weeks after the accident, Harit returned to training with the Bundesliga heavyweights, although he's yet to comment on the tragedy.

The youngster was born in France to Moroccan parents and made his professional debut with FC Nantes in 2012 before leaving for Germany in 2017.
