Herve Renard takes over as Morocco manager

Herve Renard has been named as the new coach of Morocco.

The 47-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed success on two previous spells in African football, winning the African Nations Cup with Zambia in 2012 and the Ivory Coast in 2015.

He has failed to replicate that success domestically in his homeland, tasting relegation with Sochaux in 2014 and lasting only 13 games as Lille coach this season before being sacked.

Renard said in an introductory press conference reported by L'Equipe: "The [Royal Moroccan Football Federation] president has laid out our objectives, the first being qualification for the 2017 African Nations Cup, that is not far away.

"There is also the beginning of qualificaton for the 2018 World Cup, it's a busy schedule."

Renard succeeds Badou Zaki, whose second spell at the helm ended by mutual consent last Wednesday.
