Ligue 1 transfer sales 'disgust' Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis

Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis has warned Ligue 1 clubs they must do something to stem the flood of talent being "pillaged" from French football, notably by Premier League sides.

Jordan and Andre Ayew, Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye, Dimitri Payet, Franck Tabanou, Jordan Veretout and N'Golo Kante have all left Ligue 1 to cross the Channel with Max Gradel set to join them.

With nearly a month of the transfer window left, more are likely to follow, notably last season's Ligue 1 leading scorer Alexandre Lacazette, who has been linked to a host of English sides.

Montpellier boss Courbis, who lost Remy Cabella to Newcastle United last summer and who has seen a steady stream of talent flow away from France ever since the 1990s when the likes of Thierry Henry, Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps and Emmanuel Petit left, believes steps must be taken.

"We're going to have to have a blacklist of talented players who leave us during this close season. If the level of our championship goes down, people shouldn't be surprised," Courbis, who has also coached Marseille and Bordeaux, said.

"I follow all of that with profound disgust, and I'm weighing my words carefully. We are being pillaged without reacting. We are losing good players, average players and promising, up-and-coming players.

"If we continue like this, we're going to have four 'adult' clubs, PSG, Monaco, Marseille and Lyon, and then we'll have the creche of Europe. We're heading straight for it."

Angel Di Maria is set to make the trip in the opposite direction with the Argentina international poised to complete his move from Manchester United to PSG in the coming days.
