Middlesbrough confirm Jonathan Woodgate won't be re-signed

Middlesbrough have confirmed that defender Jonathan Woodgate won't be with the club next season when they make the jump to the Premier League.

Woodgate, 36, made 112 appearances for Boro during his career, while also playing for Leeds United, Newcastle and Tottenham among other clubs.

The former England international had been with Boro since 2012 and returned to play for the club this season after being released following the 2014-15 campaign, making just one appearance in the Capital One Cup versus Burton Albion.

Woodgate is joined by Damia Abella and Rhys Williams as "out-of-contract senior players" who won't be with the club next season, according to the club's website.

Williams agreed a one-year deal to return to his native Australia to play for Perth Glory during the 2016-17 A-League campaign.
