SOCHI, Russia -- Mexico and Porto midfielder Hector Herrera described teammate Hirving Lozano's move to PSV Eindhoven from Pachuca as a "dream" and said it could open up opportunities for more Mexicans to move to Europe.
Lozano signed for PSV on Monday, before rejoining Mexico's camp on Tuesday morning in Sochi, ahead of Wednesday's Confederations Cup group match against New Zealand.
"What Hirving is living today is a dream, like I lived and other teammates went through," said Herrera in a news conference. "That opens up more doors to Mexicans [in Europe] and we try to keep doing things right so they keep trusting in us."
Mexico hasn't traditionally exported many players to Europe, but the Porto midfielder believes that tournaments like the Confederations Cup can be an important window to be spotted.
"So [teams can] see that the Mexican player can transcend and can play at a high level," Herrera said.
Former Pachuca player Herrera said he first met Lozano when the latter was 10 years old and rooms with him in Mexico camp when he can.
Mexico manager Juan Carlos Osorio said he'd like one or two more Mexican players to leave for Europe this summer and stated on Monday that Jurgen Damm, Nestor Araujo, Orbelin Pineda and Jesus Molina all have the ability to make a move over the pond.
Osorio said: "The more players we have in Europe, the higher the level and the more we'll develop as a footballing nation and national team."
