Rafa Marquez heads list of Mexico call-ups for World Cup qualifiers

Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has named a 29-player squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and the United States on June 8 and June 11, respectively.

Captain Rafa Marquez played 22 minutes in El Tri's 3-1 victory on Thursday against Ireland in MetLife Stadium and is included, despite not having featured before then since March 24.

Tigres midfielder Jesus Duenas is also in after he missed the recent friendlies against Croatia and Ireland due to family problems. Osorio indicated Thursday that he would decide Duenas' fate depending on whether the player called him and confirmed his availability.

Santos Laguna center-back Nestor Aruajo was also picked by Osorio, despite the defender having fractured a finger against Croatia.

The three players left out from the 32-player squad for the recent friendlies were Pachuca's Erick Gutierrez, Leon's Elias Hernandez and Pachuca's Raul Lopez.

The Mexico squad will meet up Sunday to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers and will travel to Russia immediately after the game against the United States.

The Confederations Cup squad will be announced on June 7, indicated a press release from the Mexican federation.
