Jesus 'Tecatito' Corona to miss Mexico friendlies vs. T&T, Argentina

New Porto signing Jesus "Tecatito" Corona will not be joining the Mexico squad for friendlies in the United States against Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina on Sept. 4 and 8, respectively.

The 22-year-old winger sealed a permanent deal from Eredivisie outfit Twente on Monday, but couldn't travel to the United States due to immigration issues in Portugal. The player instead trained for the first time on Wednesday with Os Dragoes.

"National team management informs that due to a complication in Jesus Manuel Corona's migratory proceedings that impede him arriving [in the United States] on time, it has been determined that the player won't be joining the Mexico national team meet-up to take on Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina," read a short statement on the Mexican federation's website, adding only that no player will be called in to replace Corona.

Corona was the only player to feature for Mexico at both the Copa America and Gold Cup this summer and the winger has consolidated himself as a regular with El Tri since his debut last November against the Netherlands.

Club America striker Oribe Peralta and Leon midfielder Luis Montes dropped out of the original squad after picking up injuries in Liga MX matches last weekend. They were replaced by Tigres right-back Israel Jimenez and Club Tijuana youngster Henry Martin.

El Tri is also likely to be without Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez for Friday's clash in Rio Tinto Stadium against Trinidad and Tobago, with the new Bayer Leverkusen striker set to travel from Germany on Thursday, after playing a friendly on Wednesday against Paderborn.

Mexico is using the friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago and Argentina as preparation for the Confederations Cup playoff against the United States on Oct. 10, with El Tri's interim coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti having limited time to shape a team, following former manager Miguel Herrera's firing in late July.
