Mexico to start Jesus Corona in goal over Guillermo Ochoa against Ecuador

LOS ANGELES -- Jesus Corona will start in goal for Mexico against Ecuador on Saturday ahead of World Cup star Guillermo Ochoa, El Tri coach Miguel Herrera confirmed on Friday.

"It is important to see 'Chuy' [Corona] in goal tomorrow," Herrera said in a news conference at Los Angeles Memorial Colesium. "Then it will be Memo [Ochoa] on Tuesday [against Paraguay in Kansas City, Missouri]. Both are doing very well and have kept up their level."

The Mexico coach had said earlier in the week that he was undecided about who would start in goal, with Ochoa yet to feature at all this season in La Liga for club side Malaga.

Corona and Ochoa had been involved in a rivalry for the Mexico starting spot right up until the World Cup, with former Club America keeper Ochoa eventually getting the nod.

In defense, Hugo Ayala, Diego Reyes and Hector Moreno will be the three centre-backs against Ecuador, with Miguel Layun the left wing-back and Paul Aguilar on the right.

In midfield, Jose Juan Vazquez will play the holding role, with Porto's Hector Herrera and captain Andres Guardado slightly further forward.

Real Madrid striker Javier Hernandez -- who has struggled for minutes and goals recently -- will start up front for Mexico, accompanied by Villarreal's Giovani Dos Santos.

Herrera also confirmed that Jonathan Dos Santos and Jesus "Tecatito" Corona are unlikely to be involved because of minor injuries.

Tickets are sold out for El Tri's first game of 2015 in the 90,000-capacity Coliseum, with the match a preparation ahead of a busy summer for Mexico, which is involved in both the Copa America in Chile and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States.
