The Mexican national team's busy summer just got a little busier, with the federation confirming a friendly against Costa Rica in Orlando, Fla. on June 27.
The match will be a warm-up for the Gold Cup, which begins on July 7, and will likely include Mexico's Europe-based players like Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Hector Herrera, but may not feature coach Miguel Herrera on Mexico's bench.
"Piojo" Herrera could still be in Chile leading a separate Mexico team in the Copa America, depending on how far El Tri get in the South American competition, which runs from June 11 until July 4.
Herrera has stated that the Gold Cup is Mexico's priority this summer, with the winner facing a playoff against Gold Cup 2013 champion United States in the fall for a place in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
Mexico is in Group C of the CONCACAF competition alongside Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba. It will begin its campaign against Cuba on July 9 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
El Tri lost 2-1 to Costa Rica the last time the two played in World Cup qualifying on Oct. 13, with Mexico only managing a 0-0 draw in Estadio Azteca in the home leg the previous June.
