U.S. youth international Jonathan Gonzalez named to Liga MX Best XI

U.S. youth international midfielder Jonathan Gonzalez has been named in the Liga MX's official Best XI for the 2017 Apertura.

The 18-year-old central midfielder only made his league debut for Monterrey on July 21 this year, but nailed down a starting spot for Rayados and went on to start 20 Liga MX games as Monterrey finished first in the regular season table and narrowly lost the Apertura final to city rivals Tigres.

Dual U.S.-Mexico national Gonzalez moved to Monterrey from the Bay Area of California as a 14-year-old and is yet to feature at full international level, although both national teams are showing interest.

Gonzalez was one of four Monterrey players included in the Best XI, with center-back Nicolas Sanchez, left-back Leonel Vangioni and forward Aviles Hurtado also named.

Liga MX champion Tigres had three players in the team -- Hugo Ayala, Luis Rodriguez and Enner Valencia -- while Leon had two (Elias Hernandez, Mauro Boselli), America had one (Agustin Marchesin) and Pachuca also one (Victor Guzman).
