Chivas signs Mexico international Rodolfo Pizarro from Pachuca

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Mexico international Rodolfo Pizarro has moved from Pachuca to all-Mexican Liga MX outfit Chivas in a huge domestic signing.

Chivas confirmed the transfer -- reported to be worth US$14 million -- on Monday evening, with Chivas midfielder Victor Guzman signing a permanent deal at Pachuca, where he was already on loan.

Pizarro is considered one of Mexico's brightest young talents and the versatile 22-year-old has already been capped six times by El Tri.

Pizarro appears to be a replacement for Carlos "Gullit" Pena, who left Chivas left week on loan to his former club Leon, following a disappointing Apertura 2016 season.

The Tamaulipas native can play in central midfield, behind the striker, on the wing or even at right-back and represents an ambitious statement for the Guadalajara club, which is seeking its first title in over 10 years.

Pizarro was a key figure in Pachuca's run to the Clausura 2016 title and made his debut back in 2012 under then-coach Hugo Sanchez. Since then, Pizarro has started over 100 matches in Mexico's top division and featured for El Tri at last summer's Olympics.

The Liga MX domestic transfer draft will take place on Wednesday, although the current Apertura season final between Club America and Tigres will be played over Dec. 22 and Dec. 25.
