Ex-Mexico boss Miguel Herrera in talks with Club Tijuana

The speculation about Miguel Herrera's future looks set to come to an end. The former Mexico national team coach is in Tijuana and in talks with Club Tijuana about becoming the Liga MX institution's new manager.

While there has been no official confirmation as of yet, Xolos welcomed him to the city on Twitter on Friday and later posted an Instagram photo of Herrera watching over the club's youth teams alongside sporting director Ignacio Palou.

Herrera announced to ESPN on Thursday he would be traveling to the northern Mexican city to watch the team's game against league leader Pumas and said in the Tijuana airport on arrival that he was there to listen to president Jorge Hank's proposal.

Herrera has been out of work since being fired by the Mexican football federation (FMF) for a skirmish with a TV commentator the day after El Tri won the Gold Cup last July. There had been a rumor Herrera was of interest to MLS outfit Chicago Fire.

Xolos have endured a difficult Apertura 2015 and sit in 17th place in the league. They parted ways with Argentine coach Ruben Omar Romano on Oct. 17.

Should Herrera be confirmed, he would have to wait to the end of the current Apertura -- which finishes in December -- to be able to take charge of the team in official matches, according to Liga MX stipulations.
