Since taking over the club in October 2002, Chivas owner Jorge Vergara has fired 15 managers with the Argentine La Volpe becoming the 16th coach for Chivas in 11 years.
Chivas is 4-5-4 for the season, in 10th place with 17 points. The top eight advance to the Liguilla playoffs.
La Volpe is returning to Chivas after coaching during the 1989-1990 season, when he had a 2-5-7 record.
