Liga MX's Chivas give Ricardo Cadena permanent coach duties, sign Alan Mozo from Pumas

Chivas interim manager Ricardo Cadena will continue to take charge of the Liga MX team in the upcoming 2022 Apertura season, the club announced Tuesday.

Cadena initially stepped onto the sideline in April after former manager Marcelo Michel Leaño was fired. Following an underwhelming start to the season that only saw three wins in the first 13 matches, Leaño was dropped and replaced by Cadena.

Los Rojiblancos then had an impressive run under Cadena with a five-game winning streak that pushed them into the Liga MX playoffs. Despite being eliminated by crosstown rivals and eventual champions Atlas in the quarterfinals of the Liguilla, Cadena was still able to revive the club that was out of the playoff picture when he arrived.

Chivas also confirmed on Tuesday the addition of Mexico right-back Alan Mozo from Pumas UNAM, with forward Cesar Huerta leaving Guadalajara and joining the Mexico City side.

Sources told ESPN's Leon Lecanda that Pumas gained $3.5 million following the two transactions. Chivas spent $5 million for Mozo's transfer with Pumas paying $1.5 million for Huerta's signature.

Mozo, who has two senior caps for El Tri, was one of the standout players for Pumas in their Liga MX postseason run. The defender also helped Pumas reach the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League final, with the 25-year-old included in the competition's Best XI for that season.
