Edson Alvarez already has a World Cup and league championship under his belt at 21.

MEXICO CITY -- Their careers have just started, yet they have already made a notable impression. We are talking about the unique Mexican youngsters who could soon follow in the footsteps of Diego Lainez, who at just 18 years old recently moved to Real Betis.

Some of these players are already on the radar of clubs overseas, but they remain in Mexico for the time being. That said, here are 10 players who could soon be set to take the step up and measure themselves in the world's top leagues, following...

Lionel Messi followed Atlas on Twitter on Thursday but don't expect to see Messi in Liga MX anytime soon.

Long-suffering fans of Liga MX club Atlas have not seen their team win a first-division title since 1951, but the Guadalajara institution achieved something on Thursday that no other Mexican club can boast: Lionel Messi followed them on Instagram.

And they made the most of being one of the 219 accounts that Messi follows.

Los Rojinegros posted an Instagram story "welcoming" Messi to the "red-and-black" family, before adding another explaining that he wasn't actually joining the struggling club,...

The 25-year-old center-back was part of Tigres' youth system but left for Real Salt Lake in 2012 in search of more first-team opportunities.

After a couple of poor campaigns, Chivas have somewhat surprisingly started the 2018-19 Clausura very brightly.

It's almost time for Week 3 of the 2019 Clausura! Before Liga MX futbol returns with another weekend of highly anticipated matches, here are three things to watch out for:

The three 'perfect' teams at the top of the league table

It's far too early in the season to begin making serious conclusions. In a competition that is well-known for surprise results and constant upsets by smaller clubs, positions in the league table can change dramatically with little to no warning. All that said, three...

Liga MX Power Rankings: America, Chivas take top early Clausura spots

America continues its good form from last season's championship run but are searching for a scoring threat in the transfer market.

MEXICO CITY -- Let's try something new.

Well, it's not entirely new. Inspired by (but definitely not copied from) ESPN's fantastic treatment of the NFL Power Rankings -- in which a different topic is explored each week -- the improved Liga MX Power Rankings will give great nuggets of content along the way. Here's how it works: a different topic or question is chosen each week and then spread out among the teams, giving you an added twist.

The rankings, however, remain simple. The number one...
