Diego Maradona has returned to Mexico to coach second division side Dorados, after missing the first few weeks of the Ascenso MX 2019 Clausura season partly due to a health scare.

The 53-year-old Argentine legend arrived in Mexico on Friday, confirmed Dorados, having being released from hospital in his home country on Jan. 13, following an operation for stomach bleeding.

Diego Maradona was diagnosed with stomach bleeding during routine exams.

Argentina's World Cup winning captain Diego Maradona was released from hospital on Sunday after successfully undergoing a routine operation for stomach bleeding, his lawyer said.

The 58-year old former Boca Juniors and Napoli player discovered the problem in early January during a check up at a hospital in Olivos, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona was released from hospital after being admitted earlier on Friday with internal bleeding in the stomach which was discovered during routine examinations.

The 58-year-old was having a routine medical in his homeland before returning to Mexico, where he is coach of second division side Dorados de Sinaloa, when doctors discovered the problem.

Mexico's football federation (FMF) will open a disciplinary investigation against Diego Maradona for his verbal spat against fans during the second leg of the Ascenso MX final between Dorados de Sinaloa and Atletico San Luis.

Maradona, who coaches Dorados, was involved in a post-match argument with Atletico's supporters following Sunday's second leg.
