Former Brazil captain Thiago Silva has vowed to fight for his way back into the national team, ahead of Tuesday's friendly with Austria. (1:50)

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has said he would love to represent Brazil at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 30-year-old helped his country to win bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was part of the side surprisingly beaten by Mexico in the London 2012 final.

Silva was in the Brazil lineup that suffered the crushing humiliation of losing 7-1 to Germany on home territory in the World Cup semifinal last year, and hopes to help make up for that if chosen as one of three overage players in Rio next year.

He has tipped Elivelton, Marlon and Samir to be among Brazil's future stars.

"I am always ready. I am used to saying that I was born to have this kind of choice. If the idea comes from the CBF [Brazilian FA], I'll talk to the president, with my club, because it's in my interest. I have that objective," footmercato quoted him as saying.

"I have already been called up twice for the Games in Beijing and London, both times as a player over 23 years old, so I could not say no to an Olympics organised in my country.

"If there is an interest I will be available, and I will do everything I can to come and lend a hand."
