U.S. names Andreas Herzog coach of 2016 Olympics team

USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann comments on how younger players are meshing with the senior squad.

U.S. national team assistant Andreas Herzog will coach the Americans' under-23 squad that will attempt to qualify for the 2016 Olympics later this year, US Soccer announced on Friday.

"Andi brings a wealth of experience at the international level as a player and a coach," said US Soccer president Sunil Gulati in a statement. "He has developed a thorough understanding of our system, and we are confident that he is the right coach to accomplish our goal of reaching and succeeding in the Olympic Games."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic reveals desire to play in 2016 Olympics with Sweden

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his Sweden debut in 2001.

Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said he is hopeful that he can represent his country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Ibrahimovic, 33, missed out on the World Cup after Sweden were pipped to a place in Brazil by Portugal, who beat them in the playoffs.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain striker could yet play in Brazil should Sweden's under-21 side reach the semifinals of next summer's European Under-21 Championship.

That would earn the Sweden under-23 team a place in the Olympics' football...

Brazil to select Neymar for Olympics team in 2016

Neymar, center, will be in search of gold after winning a silver medal at the London Olympics in 2012.

Brazil will select Neymar as one of Brazil's three over-age players for the 2016 Olympics, manager Alexandre Gallo said on Thursday.

Olympic teams are made up of under-23 players with the addition of up to three older players.

Gallo will call up Barcelona's Neymar along with one or two other over-age players. 

"I will take three players," Gallo told Sportv. "Or rather two. One will be Neymar. You can't think about Brazilian football without thinking of him."
