Denmark international Michael Jakobsen joins Melbourne City

Melbourne City have signed veteran Danish defender Michael Jakobsen to a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old will link with the A-League club on their preseason tour in Townsville next week after joining from Danish Superliga side Esbjerg FB.

Jakobsen has represented Denmark at every youth level and has taken the field for the national side five times since 2009, playing alongside City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.

He's previously played for Lillestrom in Norway and for Almeria in La Liga.

A left-sided central defender, Jakobsen was an integral part in Aalborg BK's Danish Superliga win in 2007-08 and qualification for the 2008-09 UEFA Champions League.

Jakobsen's signature for the 2016-17 season follows the addition of Australian great Tim Cahill, Josh Rose, Neil Kilkenny and Manny Muscat to the City squad.
