Final whistle sounds and it is Portsmouth who claim the points and local bragging rights with a 1-0 victory over their neighbours. in truth, they were the better team from start to finish in a match that was high on tension and passion but lacked skill. The conditions made it difficult for both sides to play expansive football but Southampton offered very little whilst Pompey dealt with the weather just a little better.

Phillips rattles the post with an acrobatic volley after Beattie wins a header from a huge punt upfield. The ball bounced in front of Phillips and he got his body over the ball exceptionally well to power a clean strike past a static Hislop - only for the the post to save the keeper
