On-loan Newcastle midfielder Florian Thauvin has conceded that adrenaline got the better of him after he was red carded just 10 minutes into his first match back at Marseille. Thauvin, 23, joined the Magpies in a £12 million deal in August but on Sunday he returned to his former club having made just three Premier League starts this season. The former France under-21 international's first appearance of his second spell at Marseille did not go as planned as he was sent off soon after coming on as a second-half substitute in their 1-0 win at Montpellier on Tuesday. In the 69th minute, Thauvin launched into a rash sliding tackle near the byline on Montpellier defender Hilton and he was immediately shown a straight red card by referee Tony Chapron. "I'm happy to be back at Marseille," Thauvin told reporters after the game. "I would have clearly liked for it to go a bit better for me but the team won and that's the main thing. "I think you were able to see that I was bursting with desire, but it's a lack of experience on my part. Luckily it didn't cost the team." It was only the second time that Thauvin had been sent off in his career and it means the attacking midfielder will now miss Sunday's home clash with arch rivals Paris Saint-Germain. Marseille manager Michel, who said earlier this week that Thauvin should not have been a priority signing for the club, could understand why he had got himself into trouble. "He's a good player and he wants to succeed within our squad -- that can explain what happened," Michel said after the game in Montpellier. "I didn't have to talk to him -- in the dressing room he apologised to his teammates -- but in my opinion a yellow card would have been more justified than a straight red."
