Former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has been left out of the Marseille squad for the Europa League group stages.

Diaby, 29, joined Marseille on a free transfer earlier in the summer after nine years with the Gunners.

The midfielder has been plagued by injury problems but was praised by Marseille's medical staff last month as they prepared him for a return to first-team action.

But it appears OM are taking no chances with the former France international after his name did not appear on the list of 24 players registered for their first Europa League game later this month.

Marseille begin their campaign away to Dutch side Groningen before taking on Czechs Slovan Liberec and Portuguese outfit Braga.
