Tahith Chong inks new Manchester United deal, rejects Serie A interest

Tahith Chong has rejected interest from Inter Milan and Juventus to sign a new contract at Manchester United.

The winger would have been a free agent at the end of the season but has committed his long-term future to the club by penning a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2022, with the option of another year.

Chong, 20, arrived at United from Feyenoord in 2016 and has made 10 senior appearances this season, including three in the Premier League.

"When I joined Manchester United as a youngster, it was a dream come true," said Chong. "It is an honour every time I pull on the shirt and represent this club. I am working hard every day to improve and I know this is the perfect environment to develop my game.

"The opportunity to learn from the manager, his coaching staff and the world-class players here is fantastic. I am delighted to sign this new contract and really grateful for the chance to prove myself here for many years to come."

Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus were among the clubs interested in signing Chong in the summer but the Holland Under-21 international has been convinced to stay at Old Trafford.

Sources have told ESPN that United remain in talks with 19-year-old forward Angel Gomes, who could also leave the club for free at the end of the season.

"Tahith works extremely hard every day and he is constantly improving," said manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. "His performances this season, whether for the first team or Under-23s, are testament to his hard work, dedication and to his character.

"We are pleased with the progress he has made since he stepped up from the Academy and are looking forward to continuing to develop his talent.

"Tahith has great potential; given his age, ability and work-ethic, we can see that he has a bright future at Manchester United."
