Giuseppe Rossi 'humbled and grateful' for training with Manchester United

Former Manchester United forward Giuseppe Rossi has thanked the club for allowing him to train with them as he looks for a new side.

American-born Italy international Rossi, who played for Genoa last season, made his debut for United in a League Cup tie against Arsenal 14 years ago after joining at the age of 17.

He will continue training with United until he has found another club and told Sky Sports he was delighted to have linked up with his former side.

"I'm very humbled and grateful for the opportunity. It's a great gesture," Rossi said.

"I've had a rough few years with injuries, and that takes a lot away from you -- but I've always been able to bounce back and come back stronger.

"I'm here, I'm ready for any challenge and I'm training with the best players in the world, with the best team in the world. I cannot ask for more."

Rossi, 31, has undergone a number of knee operations, and the former Villarreal and Fiorentina player said he was pleased that United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Sir Alex Ferguson had been impressed with his contribution in training.

"It's always great to hear that," he added. "I saw the boss [Ferguson] a week ago and chatted with him about old times, and it's great to see him around the football field in high spirits."

Rossi said Solskjaer had "been amazing" since his return to United, winning all seven games of which he has taken charge.

"It's very hard to come in mid-season and have these results, especially at United with a million eyes on you. In training I'm seeing the spirits are very high," he said.
