Solskjaer surpasses Matt Busby to make Manchester United history with six successive wins

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made Manchester United history with Sunday's 1-0 victory over Tottenham making it six wins in his first six matches as manager -- overtaking Sir Matt Busby's record of five.

Solskjaer was appointed in December as caretaker following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho and remains just one of a number of candidates for the role on a full-time basis when a decision is made in the summer.

A clash away at Tottenham was billed as the first real test of Solskjaer's tenure at the club but Marcus Rashford's goal helped him set a new record.

Cardiff, a club Solskjaer had previously managed, were his first opponents on Dec. 22, but they were dispatched 5-1 before United beat Huddersfield 3-1 in his first home match four days later.

On Dec. 30, United beat Bournemouth 4-1 before a 2-0 win at Newcastle on Jan. 2 and another 2-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup third round.

And Rashford's goal against Tottenham earned the win to make it six wins out of six and overtake Busby's record.

David De Gea starred in the victory at Wembley, making 11 saves on the day -- the most in a Premier League match this season.

"Results wise, to come away here and beat Tottenham is fantastic," Solksjaer said. "We hung on in the second half and we never got to grips with it when they changed the system, but you are allowed to have a good goalkeeper."

The mood has been transformed at United since Mourinho was fired and former fan favorite Solskjaer was brought in from Norwegian side Molde.

"The manager brought some happiness, the players are playing well, and the team is very strong now," De Gea said. "This is the real Manchester United."

Manchester United's next match is at home to Brighton in the Premier League on Jan. 19.
