Mason Greenwood scored a hat trick as Manchester United knocked holders Chelsea out of the FA Youth Cup on Monday.
The 17-year-old striker, who was on the bench for Jose Mourinho's senior team for the Champions League defeat to Valencia five days ago, stole the show in a 4-3 win at Leigh Sports Village as United's Under-18s earned a place in the fourth-round draw at the expense of Chelsea, who have won the competition for the past five years.
United, managed by Neil Ryan, son of Busby Babe and first-team assistant under Sir Alex Ferguson Jimmy Ryan, survived a second-half red card and a late fightback from Chelsea to seal victory.
In front of the watching Ed Woodward and Michael Carrick, United were 4-1 up after 80 minutes thanks to Greenwood's treble and another goal from Di'Shon Bernard.
Bernard was shown a red card for two bookable offences before Chelsea staged a late comeback to set up a thrilling finale.
United have won the FA Youth Cup a record 10 times. Their last success was in 2011 with a team that included Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard.
